The Vortex is an unkillable enemy and enviromental hazard introduced in Serious Sam: Tormental.
Overview[]
The Vortex is a large red creature with a big eye surrounded by some sort of material or debris. If the player breaks the walls to the cerebral void (the edge of the map), stable thoughts will begin a catastrophic reaction with the unrealized ideas outside, causing an extremely destructive cerebral vortex. This brainstorm will suck in and destroy anything, including the player and any enemies caught in its path.[1]
Their main role in the game is to prevent the player from getting out of the map, much like the Sandwhale in Serious Sam 3: BFE.

Serious Sam: Tormental[]
The Vortex is found in every level that takes place in the Mindscape, but are only found concealed within the walls of the map. They are revealed when these walls are destroyed, and consume everything that gets sucked into their path.
Behavior and skills[]
The Vortex shares the same ability with the Devouer and has the ability to suck anything into it, such as enemies and the player, instantly killing them. Ammo and pickups are not affected by the Vortex.
They are invulnerable to damage, rendering them unable to be harmed by any of the player's weapons, explosions, bullets or environmental hazards.
Tactics[]
- The player should avoid being sucked into the Vortex at all costs, as doing so will result in instant death.
- If the player has Ankh Potions in their inventory, they will be teleported to the center of the room and a safe enough distance away from the Vortex to get away from them upon revival, should the player happen to be killed by one.
