The Vault is one of the two main features in Serious Sam: Tormental.
Overview[]
The Vault is an area located inside Mental's mind that contains his deepest thoughts and secrets, as well as giving the playing hints to revealing his true identity, which has been remained a mystery since the Serious Sam series began. The player can enter it after they've completed "Mental Woods" for the first time. After that, they can visit it anytime at the start of the level.
Once inside the Vault, the player will need to obtain 32 Vault keys to able to unlock the door at the back of the room. Vault keys can be earned by completing challenges and finishing certain quests if the player talks to the certain NPCs found throughout the levels.
Every time the player brings a key to the Vault they will get some more dialogue with Mental himself, a representation of whom resides on top of the vault door. After all 32 chests are unlocked the Vault door opens and enables the player to enter the Cerebral Gateway and fight the Mental Thought.
Looping[]
When the player completes Fortress and enters and exits the Vault, they will loop for the first time. Once the player begins Mental's Forest again, tougher enemies and environmental hazards will make it much harder for them to progress. The more they loop, the more difficult it gets.
