This subject appears in Serious Sam: Double D.

The Type II Machine Pistol is an automatic weapon that that appears in Serious Sam: Double D and Serious Sam: Double D: XXL. It is the weakest weapon in the game and the default weapon the player starts with when starting a new game in single player or co-op.

Overview[]

The machine pistol fires a shot every time the player presses the fire key. Holding down the fire key increase its rate of fire, but not as fast a hitting the fire key as fast as possible.

Each shot is very weak; it takes multiple shots to kill anything stronger than a Marsh Hopper, the weakest enemy in the game. It has infinite ammo, giving the player a ranged weapon they can always use if they run out of ammo for the rest of their weapons.

Appearances[]

The player starts with the machine pistol when starting a new game.

Upgrades[]

Like other weapons in Serious Sam: Double D: XXL, the machine pistol can be upgraded, which makes it semi-useful in a stack. They can be purchased from The Trader with Cerebral Controllers. The last upgrade, Machinobi, is unlocked after completing the game for the first time.

Type II Machine Pistol Air Buffer Air Buffer ($50)
Lets the player slowly decend while firing. This is useful while getting to high to reach places with the Jump Pad.
Type II Machine Pistol Stack Healer Stack Healer ($100)
Regenerates the player's health while firing at approximately 1 point a second.
Type II Machine Pistol Damage Stacker Damage Stacker ($200)
Increases all damage done by the player's weapons in the given stack by 50%.
Type II Machine Pistol Machinobi Machinobi ($350)
Fires oversized ninja stars that can stick in enemies and the ground. They will harm the player if they step on them.

Tactics[]

  • The machine pistol is borderline useless. It does a pitiful amount of damage per shot, and its rate of fire does not compensate for this. The only good thing about it is that it has infinite ammo, but its amount of damage per shot makes this a very small advantage. It should be removed from a stack as soon as possible.
  • The machine pistol's infinite ammo makes it useful as an emergency weapon if the player is out of ammo, but it should only be used for self-defense while running to more ammo. Taking on hordes with this weapon is suicide.
  • Despite being the weakest weapon in the game, it can be semi-useful in a stack if it's been upgraded in the XXL version. The Air Buffer upgrade, for example, is useful for gunning down enemies from the air, avoiding melee enemy attacks and for speedrunning.
  • A trick the player can perform with the Air Buffer upgrade is by lauching themselves into the air with the jump pad and then firing the machine pistol with it. This can be used to get to hard to reach places, which can make it useful for finding secrets.
  • With the Damage Stacker upgrade, the machine pistol doesn't really receive much of a damage buff, but it can be helpful for increased firepower in a stack, especially with strong weapons such as the 12 Gauge Shotgun and Thompson submachine gun.
  • The Stack Healer is useful for slowing gaining back health if the player is very low on health, but it only gives back a miniscule amount of health and the player is better off using health pickups.
  • The Machinobi upgrade can be used to lay traps in the ground for smaller enemies.

Trivia[]

  • Despite its name, the machine pistol looks more like a submachine gun. In fact, it is based on the Japanese pre-World War 2 Nambu Type 1 submachine gun.
