- "Known for its bloody sacrifices this temple was once the focal point of a perverse ancient Egyptian cult. The eating of living hearts was believed to give the priests eternal life."
- ―NETRICSA's tactical data.
The Temple of Herkat Upper is the first level of Serious Sam Advance.
Plot[]
After finishing up his latest adventure, Sam Stone uses the Time-Lock to return to the present and take some nice time off. Earth's scientists were initially only able to send people to and from ancient Egypt, the same time where the Sirians had initially sent it. Over time, study of the inscriptions within the Egyptian tombs expanded their knowledge of the Time-Lock's capabilities, figuring out how to sent people to specific dates and locations beyond the machine's initial settings.
Humanity used the Time-Lock to discover more about their own history, but were wary of Mental's spies that were living amongst the present-day humans, monitoring and reporting humanity's progress back to their notorious leader. Fully aware of the threat he poses, humanity sent agents back in time to see if Mental had sent some of his monstrosities to other civilations to corrupt the course of history. These missions were without incident for two years, until three agents failed to return and the rescue team sent in after them was also lost.
In a crisis meeting, it was decided that only Sam can be trusted to set things right. His first destination: The Temple of Herkat in Egypt, 512 BC. Once home to a perverse Egyptian cult that believed in gaining immortality through the consumption of human hearts, things were off to a great start.
Strategic data[]
The Upper Temple is usually pretty quiet around this time so you should meet little resistance.
Pick up the pistol quickly and be prepared for anything Mental may throw at you. You should manage fine with this piece but there's a hidden extra if you feel you need it.
Complete the level in under 2 minutes for added glory.
Secrets[]
- In the second room after starting the game, after dispatching two pairs of Beheaded Kamikaze, go to the other side of the pillar in the middle. Instead of heading towards the next room, turn around and touch the pillar to reveal a hidden Double Barrel Coach Gun.
Trivia[]
- The icon representing this level on the map screen is taken from Temple of Hatshepsut in Serious Sam: The First Encounter's map.
- Using passwords to access this level is fairly pointless, since it will simply behave as if starting a new game. Nevertheless, the codes are fittingly enough "EASY" (Tourist), "MEDIUM" (Bring It On!) and "HARD" (Serious!!!). Though for some reason the "MEDIUM" password doesn't work (developer error).
