Super Armor is a very rare type of armor pickup that appears in the Serious Sam series.

Overview[]

Super armor provides the player with the most armor out of any other armor in the game, giving the player 200 armor points when given. However, it will not go beyond the 200 armor points limit.

Appearances[]

Super armor is the rarest type of armor in the series. When it appears normally, it is a big sign that the player is going to be in a very large and dangerous fight soon, and should prepare accordingly. Super armor can also be found in secrets, and in that case, is never a sign that the player will be involved in a huge battle soon. Most of these are well hidden or difficult to get, as they are very useful.

While super armor doesn't appear in the original version of Serious Sam 3: BFE, it does in the Serious Sam Fusion version; it can be found on the final level in The Guardian of Time. This is the only time it appears in the entire campaign.

In Serious Sam 4, super armor is also not officially featured in the game, but it remains in the game files and is usable in the moddable version. It reappears in Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem; one can be found in Siberiade after defeating the three Knight bosses in a secret at the end of the level, and two more can be found in the final level Crime And Punishment: the first one is featured at the end of the secret classic area based on The Citadel, and another one appears just before the boss fight with Howard Brand.

Behind the scenes[]

In the Alpha version of Serious Sam 1, the armor's design was drastically different. It used the 3 models of the Medium Armor, Large Armor and Extra Large Armor combined and made the latter two completely red. It also used a unique charge fanfare sound effect when equipped.
In Test 1, super armor had a different, simpler design that was painted brown. This design was used in Test 2, but was recolored red.
Super armor can be found in Serious Sam 3: BFE's game files, suggesting it was going to be added in the final version, but was scrapped. It only appears as a functioning item in the Serious Sam Fusion version.

Trivia[]

Super armor's design varies between games:
- In Serious Sam 1, Serious Sam: Next Encounter and Serious Sam HD, it appears as a large red vest.
- In Serious Sam 2, it is a full set of yellow and blue medieval-style armor with a helmet, chest piece, shield and legs.
- In Serious Sam 3: BFE, it is a vest that looks like the Orc Gunner's torso armor.
- In Serious Sam 4 and Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem, it is a suit of black and red heavily armored tactical gear with a helmet and backpack.
