The Spawner Bio-mechanoid is an enemy that is exclusive to Serious Sam Classics: Revolution.
Overview[]
Based on the Minor Bio-mechanoid, the Spawner Bio-mechanoid is a yellow variant of the ordinary Bio-mechanoid that has two Marsh Hopper spawners attached to its sides.
Appearances[]
The Spawner Bio-mechanoid appears only in the Bright Island campaign, first appearing in "Ruins of the Abyss". Later on, Spawners are somewhat common enemies that generally appear in groups with other enemies and can spawn with Minors, Majors, or even Dominants. They become more common on higher difficulties.
Spawner Bio-mechs can be made to appear in The First Encounter and The Second Encounter campaigns in co-op if the mutator replacing enemies with new types is enabled, thus making it possible to encounter them as early as "Sand Canyon" or "Valley of the Jaguar".
Behavior and skills[]
Unlike most other enemies that appear in the series and much like Mordekai the Summoner, Spawner Bio-mechanoids do not attack the player directly, but instead release Marsh Hoppers from their spawners. The amount of Hoppers they can release is infinite, which can cause a very large amount of Marsh Hoppers to appear if they are not killed quickly within a period of time. They will also release a small swarm of Marsh Hoppers upon death. The Marsh Hoppers spawned from Spawner Bio-mechs neither give the player any points, nor do they contribute towards the level's total number of kills (most likely to avoid inflating the level's kill count to impossibly huge numbers), as they are technically projectiles. Because of this, even if a Spawner Bio-mech is dead, assuming its Marsh Hoppers are the only enemies around, they will also not cause the level's medium/fight music to play. Despite this, they will still be counted in the NETRICSA enemy catalogue if the player has yet to kill a Marsh Hopper in their playthrough.
Tactics[]
- The Marsh Hoppers it spawns can be quickly killed with rapid-fire weapons or the P-LAH Chainsaw and XOP Flamethrower.
- Spawner Bio-mechanoids can be defeated quickly with the Thompson submachine gun, although it can be ammo-consuming due to their relatively large health pool. Large groups of them can be taken down with the XM214-A Minigun, XL2 Lasergun, XL4-P 'Ghostbuster' Beam Gun, XPML21 Rocket Launcher, CDF-ST-005 Plasmathrower, and MK III Grenade Launcher. The latter is recommended as it kills Spawner Bio-mechs in three hits and thus can save ammo for the player's other weapons.
- The P-LAH Chainsaw is great for dealing with Spawner Bio-mechanoids and the Marsh Hoppers they spawn, as circling around the Spawner Bio-mechanoids while revving the chainsaw will both greatly damage the Spawner and kill any spawned Marsh Hoppers with little to no risk of the player taking damage. This is not recommended on I Am Ugh-Zan difficulty, however, due to the chances of Spawners and Marsh Hoppers spawning with fire and ice modifiers which can gradually harm and slow down the player, respectively.
- This tactic also leaves the player vulnerable to attacks from other nearby enemies, especially Kleer Skeletons and Major or Dominant Bio-mechs.
- The XOP Flamethrower is also an effective weapon against Spawner Bio-mechanoids and their Marsh Hoppers.
- The MKII-B Minelayer is an effective weapon against Spawners. The player can plant a few mines onto the ground in close proximity to each other, lure a Spawner to them, and detonate them, killing it.
- The SBC Cannon is a great weapon to use against Spawners as it can mow down a group of them so long as it not uncharged. However, the cannon cannot kill any Marsh Hoppers that have been released unless they happen to be in the cannonball's path.
- Spawner Bio-mechanoids are highly resistant to the RAPTOR Sniper Rifle's rounds, so don't use it except as a last resort or while Serious Damage is active.
- Spawner Bio-mechanoids can be a threat when they appear with other enemies, as the amount of Marsh Hoppers they spawn can give the player less room to dodge other enemy attacks. They should be one of the first enemies targeted when they appear with others.
- Note that if the player takes too long to kill a Spawner Bio-mechanoid, it will eventually spawn too many Marsh Hoppers that the game will likely crash. This is assuming the Hoppers are also not killed.
Trivia[]
- The Spawner Bio-mechanoid's weapons are a recolored version of the magic missile launcher weapon used by the Beheaded Firecracker.
