The Snorkler is an enemy that appears in Serious Sam: Tormental.

Overview

The Snorkler is an aquatic creature that lurks in the waters of the Sea of Thoughts. A variant of the Snorkler, called the Undersnorkler, has a random chance to appear in this level, especially in loops.

Mental knows that if there's one universal rule to the universe, is that large bodies of water, wherever it is located, births the most weirdest and creepiest creatures of existence. It has been one of Mental's hobbies to research the deadliest creatures of the seas. The Snorkler is one such example. A creature that Mental conscripted into his Horde that uses a similar kind of behavior are the Sirens native to the planet Valtos.

Behavior and skills

Snorklers usually keep submerged and out of sight until they notice the target approaching. When the target is close enough, the Snorkler will jump out of the water and spit two red projectiles at them. While they are underwater, only their eyes give away their presence.

The Undersnorkler variant fires a three-round burst of projectiles instead of just two at once. They also have a red outline around their body.

Tactics

• Alone, the Snorkler is easy to kill. It takes six shots from The Gun or one Sledgehammer hit to kill them. Larger groups can be easily taken out with pistol upgrades such as the burst-fire or explosive bullets.
• Take note that Snorklers can't be damaged when they enter the water. This means the player shouldn't try to waste shots on them while they are submerged.
• When Snorklers are in the water, they can be easily found if there are two eyes or their shadow moving around, as their eyes are exposed when they are in the water.
• When appearing with other enemies, the Snorkler is a medium-priority threat. Its projectiles can be easily dodged but can be dangerous if the player is focusing on stronger enemies, as the Snorkler's projectile deals relatively high damage.
• The Undersnorkler variant is more dangerous compared to Snorklers due to the speed of their projectiles and because they fire them in a rapid burst. Jump over their projectiles or find cover to avoid being hit by them.
• If there are Undersnorklers in the same area as tougher enemies like Croakueens or Helioporas, "serious weapons" like the Bouncer or Shotgun work very well for clearing the room of these enemies.
