The Sirian Seal is a special artifact of Sirian origin that is designed for the purpose of opening doors which lead to underground structures.
Overview[]
Sirian seals appear as small, metallic circular or rectangular-shaped objects. These seals have a pattern engraved on them similar to that of a printed circuit board and a symbol representing the ancient Egyptian deity that the seal is named after (for example, the Seal of Ra or the Seal of Isis).
Functionality[]
Made by the Sirians to act as some kind of key, these seals represent important ancient Egyptian deities, which include Anubis, Ra, Horus, Osiris, Isis, or Set.[1][2][3]
The seal contained within the temple of a certain deity also bears the symbol of its respective god or goddess. For instance, the Tomb of Isis located on Philae contained the Seal of Isis, which would only reveal itself once four statues were collected and placed on their respective plinths.[3]
Aside from the Sirian Mutilator (or 'the Arrow'), these seals are the only known way to gain access to a Sirian Door, as the doors are impervious to any human technology. The seals can only be acquired with the use of the 'the Arrow'. The seals are all located inside Egyptian temples, where they are kept hidden behind a statue or a Sirian door. In order to gain access to the seal, someone has to have the Mutilator bracelet in their possession in order to unlock the door or move the statue that is housing the seal. A simple gesture like a wave of the hand is all that is needed to access the seal or for opening a Sirian door.[1]
Appearances[]
Serious Sam 3: BFE[]
Eight seals appear in the Serious Sam 3: BFE campaign, while two appear in the Jewel of the Nile expansion pack. The first four, known as the 'Seals of Life', are located in nearby temples in Karnak, near the Horus Generator, which Sam needs to activate to provide power to the Time-Lock. Later on, in Luxor, Sam has to find four more seals to gain access to the Anubis Generator. This time, the seals are referred to as the 'Seals of Death', which could be a reference to Anubis, the ancient Egyptian god of embalming and ruler of the underworld.
Jewel of the Nile[]
Wilson takes Sam to the island of Philae to find the Time-Lock control room, as it didn't come online as the EDF had initially hoped. Once on the island, Sam obtains the statue of Isis in her tomb and places it on its respective plinth on the surface, which in turns reveals four more statues scattered around the island. He places the other statues on their plinths, and the Seal of Isis is revealed to him, which Sam uses to unlock the door to the second Sirian chamber within the tomb. Inside, he finds a key, which is needed elsewhere.[3]
In Abu Simbel, Sam acquires another seal, the Seal of Set, inside the Great Templ. Quinn believes that this key should unlock a Sirian door inside the tomb of Sethirkopshef, which is located about 3 miles away. As Quinn is unable to provide Sam a lift via helicopter, he is forced to get to the tomb on his own.[4]
After Sam makes it to the tomb of Sethirkopshef, he uses the key to gain access to the Sirian door and power up the Time-Lock from within.[5]
Trivia[]
- The seal's pedestals resemble the one that is used for the Sign of Amon-Ra to be placed on in order to start the boarding process for the SSS Centerprice in Serious Sam: The First Encounter.[6]
