Shells (Cartridges in Serious Sam Advance, and Shotgun Ammo in Serious Sam: Double D) are a common pickup item that is used as ammunition for shotguns.

Overview[]

Shells are a type of ammo pickup that supply shotguns that use 12-gauge cartridges, such as the 12 Gauge Pump-Action Shotgun and Double Barrel Coach Gun.

The amount of ammo in each box of shells depends on the game and (in some cases) the difficulty level. In most games, each box supplies 10 shells, while in Serious Sam 2, it gives the player 20 shells per box regardless of the difficulty.

In Serious Sam 3: BFE, Serious Sam 3 VR: BFE, and Serious Sam's Bogus Detour, there is a small shell pickup shaped like the pump-action shotgun's magazine that gives 5 shells when picked up.

In Serious Sam 4, there are four types of shell pickups: the usual box that supplies 10, a large box that supplies 20, a clip that supplies 5, and a small pickup that supplies 4 that is sometimes dropped by enemies if the player has the Looter Shooter S.A.M. skill. The 20 shells box also supplies 5 grenades for the GP-25 Kostyor if it's equipped on the pump-action shotgun.

Appearances[]

Shells are the most common ammo type in the series, often appearing on almost every level in the games. They also often appear in secrets.

In Serious Sam 4, enemies will sometimes drop a small amount of shells when killed by the player if they have unlocked the Looter Shooter S.A.M. skill. The shells that are dropped are dependent on the type of shotgun the player is using.

Trivia[]

  • The design of this item varies throughout the series:
    • In most games, shells appear as a small cardboard box containing multiple slug shells.
    • In Serious Sam 3: BFE, the item appears as a small black case. There also exists a magazine clip in the latter game and in Serious Sam 4 and Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem.
