The Scorpion Soldier, also simply known as Scorp Soldier, is an enemy that appears in Serious Sam 2, and replaces the Arachnoids from Sam's previous adventures.

Overview

The Scorpion Soldier is a scorpion-like creature with a gun connected to it through a tube. They have an elongated head with multiple pairs of eyes, several mandibles and have long, pointed limbs. There are two types of Scorpion Soldier; yellow and red.

Appearances

Yellow Scorpion Soldiers are first encountered in Chaolin Chambers while the red ones first appear in Doomed Canyon. Red Scorpion Soldiers are much more rare than the normal ones.

Unlike Arachnoids, Scorpion Soldiers are usually placed in the same ground as the player, instead of appearing in far-away or elevated areas, though it sometimes does happen, like in Chanolin Chambers and Siriusopolis Uptown.

Behavior and skills

The Scorpion Soldier has two attacks: firing a burst of green projectiles from a distance and a melee attack. It will only use its melee attack if the player gets too close to it.

Red Scorpion Soldiers are larger, have more health and do more damage than a yellow one does. There are also bigger red Scorp Soldiers that deal a lot more damage than the normal red variety, and are more durable.

Tactics

• The Scorpion Soldier's projectiles can be avoided by strafing in one direction.
• The yellow Scorpion Soldier is not much of a threat in small groups, as its projectiles are easy to dodge. However, large groups can be dangerous because of how many projectiles they are firing. In that case, the player should try to thin out the group whenever they have a chance.
• Yellow Scorpion Soldiers can easily be eliminated at close range with the Double Shotgun, as one blast will kill it.
• Groups of yellow Scorpion Soldiers can be taken out with either the Uzi or XM214-A Minigun. Their health is low enough that the Uzi can get rid of them or the minigun can completely shred through a group of them.
• Red Scorpion Soldiers can be dealt with by using the XPML30 Rocket Launcher or Clawdovic. The Clawdovic is extremely effective against them, as it instantly kills them on lower difficulties and puts them in a near-death state on serious. These weapons are also effective against groups of them.
• When the player is faced with yellow and red Scorpion Soldiers, the player should target the yellow ones first because they are easier to kill and the sheer amount of projectiles being fired by them can easily hit the player. Once most of the yellow ones are dead, the player should focus on the red ones.

Trivia

• Scorpion Soldiers are extremely similar in looks and behavior to the Arachnoids. It's unknown if they are Arachnoids that have been genetically modified by Mental, a subspecies of Arachnoid, or are a different species.
• A few enemies in the series, such as Hatchling Arachnoids in Serious Sam 3: BFE and Serious Sam 4, reuse the Scorpion Soldier's sounds.
• Scorpion Soldiers are one of the enemies in the game that always gib upon death no matter what kills them. Curiously, unlike the other enemies that always gib, they don't have unused death animations at all.
• The yellow Scorpion Soldier uses the same sounds as the red one, but with a higher pitch.
