The Quantum Golem is a purple-colored Golem with gray armor and the ability to wield the power of lesser Golem-type enemies. It appears as the final boss of the Bright Island campaign in Serious Sam Classics: Revolution.
Overview[]
The Quantum Golem is a Golem variant that is identified by its purple color and gray armor. Known as the 'Equinox Anomaly' by the first Sirian expedition, the Quantum Golem consists of quantum and elemental energy.
Appearances[]
Quantum Golems only appear in the Bright Island campaign, exclusive to the final level "The Steps of Despair". The large Quantum Golem appears as the final boss of that level once the player has defeated all of the previous bosses: the large Geyser, Lava, Storm, and Mud Golems.
In co-op, Quantum Golems can be made to appear if the mutator replacing enemies with new variants is activated, meaning Quantum Golems can be encountered as early as "Alley of the Sphinxes" or even "Sierra de Chiapas", with a chance of the boss variant appearing in "Alley of the Sphinxes" and "The Grand Cathedral".
Behavior and skills[]
Unlike other Golem variants, the Quantum Golem has no projectiles of its own. Instead, it has the ability to fire each Golem's own projectiles: the Lava Golem's lava rocks, the Geyser Golem's plasma balls, the Storm Golem's tornado balls, and the Mud Golem's stones. Larger Quantum Golems will attempt to track the player's movement with their projectiles. In singleplayer mode, it can't spawn smaller versions of itself upon getting damaged or dying, instead spawning the other four basic types. This is not the case in cooperative mode as Quantum Golems will indeed split smaller Quantum Golems off themselves in addition to spawning the other Golem types as well.
Quantum Golems are the toughest of all Golem-type enemies, with small variants able to withstand two direct hits from rockets or grenades before dying, medium variants requiring at least three fully charged cannonballs to take down and the large variant having almost twice as much health as a large Lava Golem.
Like other Golems, the Quantum Golem will melee the player by smashing the ground with its fists when they get close to it, damaging other nearby players as well. As with the other Golems, the Quantum Golem's melee attack will always gib a player if it kills them regardless of the amount of damage dealt.
Tactics[]
- Quantum Golems are much stronger in comparison to other Golems. Strong weapons like the CDF-ST-005 Plasmathrower, MK III Grenade Launcher, SBC Cannon, XL2 Lasergun, and XPML21 Rocket Launcher are needed to take them down.
- The XM214-A Minigun is also helpful in destroying many of the projectiles larger Quantum Golems throw while also damaging the Golems at the same time.
- For obvious reasons, never get close to the large Quantum Golem. Even being in medium range will make it retaliate with its fatal ground pound attack.
- The player can hide from the large Quantum Golem behind one of the pillars, although this will also leave them vulnerable to attack from other Golems, especially considering that they are thrown far enough to be able to see the player.
- As with the other Golem variants, the Quantum Golem will spawn more Golems as it gets damaged. Since the Quantum Golem is by far the most dangerous of them all and can spawn any Golem type, destroying each smaller enemy as they appear is vital to keeping control of the flow of battle.
Trivia[]
- The boss fight against the large Quantum Golem in The Steps of Despair reuses the boss fight music ("Gladiator") from the Adult Arachnoid boss fight at the end of "Into the Spider's Nest" in Serious Sam 3: BFE.
- The Quantum Golem is one of only a few enemies to have no allegiance to Mental whatsoever, with the others being Kukulkรกn, the Wind God and the ancient Lava Golem from Serious Sam: The First Encounter.
- The voiceline Sam says when the Quantum Golem spawns in was originally made for Serious Sam 2, but was cut and later repurposed for Serious Sam Classics: Revolution. This is also true for many of the other quotes said by Sam in the Bright Island campaign.
