Mental Mate is a playable multiplayer character featured in Serious Sam 2. He reappears again in Serious Sam: Tormental, Serious Sam 4 and Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem.
Biography[]
Mental Mate is the "evil" twin brother of Serious Sam, much like how Dark Delilah is the "evil" version of Serious Sammy. He was the long lost twin brother Sam never had. The story about Mate's life can be described as a great Rock' n' Roll adventure. Sam's parents lost Mate in the supermall when he was just a baby. Rich TV producer Maaronn Telling adopted him, providing lil' Mate with a life of luxury. But that wasn't good enough for teenager Mate; his rebellious soul drove him from trouble to trouble, from prison to prison, from adventure to adventure.
During all that time, Sam and Mate didn't know about each other, Sam's parents didn't brag about losing Mate while Tellings didn't want anyone to know they adopted a child. The only thing he had in common with Sam (besides the same left foot being bigger than the right, having the same age, same face and birthmark in a delicate place) was a passion for cooking. Mate decided to put his wild life behind him and, with his father's help, started a cooking channel.
One day, between 2 half's of the intergalactic drinking contest finals, Sam spotted "himself" on the cooking channel. For the first few weeks he was confused, because he couldn't remember being on TV nor cooking pork for breakfast. Finally Sam met Mate, they compared birthmarks and confronted the Tellings. Mate was so hurt that he didn't know the truth that he demolished his parent's house. That was one of his "I am going mental" attacks, from which he got the nickname "Mental". Sam and Mate are now inseparable trying to catch up their lost childhood.

Mental Mate can be chosen as a player model in the multiplayer settings.
Serious Sam: Tormental[]
The player can select Mental Mate anytime they wish from the wardrobe in the Frontal Lobe, but only when they playing as Sam.
Serious Sam 4[]
A few clones of Mental Mate and Sam can be found in the football secret in the level One for the Road. There is another Mental Mate spectating the match from the stands. Scoring a goal for Mental Mate will have him reward the player with a random item such as health, armor, or ammo.
Personality and skills[]
Mental Mate shares the same abilities and skills as Sam.
When playing as Mental Mate in Serious Sam: Tormental, he can roll much further than Sam or other characters than.
Appearance[]
Serious Sam 2/Serious Sam 4[]
Mental Mate looks exactly like Sam except that he wears black shades and a black t-shirt. Instead of the Serious Sam logo appearing on his shirt, it is replaced with a skull. On the back of his shirt reads "Mental Mate".
Serious Sam: Tormental[]
Mental Mate looks the same as he does in his other appearances, except that he has red shades instead of black ones. Unlike his past models, his shirt has a bomb on it instead of a skull.
