Massimo Murena was a member of the Italian Resistance who fought against Mental's forces in Rome during the Tunguska Offensive. He is a minor supporting character featured in Serious Sam 4.
Biography[]
Little is known about Massimo's past. He was of Italian descent and born in Rome, or came there to join some soldiers to fight off Mental's forces. During the Invasion of Rome, he joined the Italian Resistance and fought to defend his city from the aliens, becoming a well-known hero among the resistance fighters.[1]

Massimo is killed by Mental's Horde.
Massimo is seen alongside Paolo fighting off Mental's forces on the rooftop of a house. Sam offers them assistance (should the player choose to accept the side objective) and they are able to fend off the attack. However, Massimo is killed in the fight, which deeply saddens Paolo.[1] Sam offers the latter reassurance, telling Paolo that he should take Massimo's place as hero of the Italian Resistance. Paolo is pleased to hear Sam's kind words of encouragement, and offers Massimo's assault rifle to Sam as thanks.
He is mentioned in a note than can be found in the level "Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse", describing someone sacrificing themselves by diverting enemy attention away from the excavation site in Pompeii to save Professor Stein's life. He described his choice as having a "Massimo Murena moment".

Paolo[]
He and Paolo were comrades and good friends, as shown when they we fighting alongside one another against Mental's army the day Rome was invaded. Paolo was deeply saddened after discovering Massimo's body.[1]
Sam Stone[]
Massimo got on well with Sam, and thanked for him for his assistance during the skirmish on the rooftops.
Personality and skills[]
Massimo was a kind and optimistic man. He had high confidence in himself, and was not afraid to stand up to the alien menace that threatened his city. He had gained a reputation among the Italian Resistance, and earned honorific titles such as "the Spirit of Roma" and the "Hero of the Italian Resistance".[1]
Appearance[]
Massimo was a man of Italian descent in his early to mid twenties or thirties, judging by his looks. He wore a military uniform and a red beret, along with black combat boots. He wielded the M29 Infantry Assault Rifle in combat.
Trivia[]
- If one looks closely, blood stains can be seen in the area where Massimo dies before his death.
- It is impossible to prevent Massimo from being killed. Even if the player kills all the enemies in the area quickly, there is nothing that the player can do to save him, as his death is scripted and a cutscene starts automatically once the area is clear.
- Given that there don't appear to any lacerations or wounds on his body, it's possible that Massimo was likely shot by an Octanian Gamma Trooper.[1]
