"Magao Caves" is the twenty-fourth level of Serious Sam: Next Encounter.
Plot[]
Upon leaving the Dunhuang Oasis, Sam is now at the Mogao Caves, a system of caves with tombs and spirits lurking around. He must now pass through here to get to his main objective.
Data[]
The Magao Caves are carved into the sides of the mountain range we are now crossing. Containing priceless artworks and religious writings, they are now no more than tombs for those who fell to the invading minions. Be careful as you make your way through this region Sam, the evil forces are heavily deployed and you will also have to make your way through the Grand Sorcerer's pagoda. Imbued with the spirit of the ancient dragons, it is not somewhere to tread lightly. The spirits there might assume you are one of the invaders.
Secrets[]
- When the elevator in the main pagoda lifts you up, go around its shaft and jump down to the first ledge of the roof - there is a Super Armor and 4 treasure chests there (4000 points). It is also possible to reach here from the ground by performing a double rocket jump.
- After exiting the giant pagoda, you'll be walking down a long catwalk. Keep walking until you see some sniper rifle ammo, which will be about the the time you see a tree protruding from the mountain on the left. Fire a couple shots into the wood below, and you'll expose a square opening. Look through this opening for the familiar purple light show, and carefully drop yourself down into it. You'll be whisked off across the ravine, to where you can stock up on ammo (spider mines, limpet mines and laughing gas) and 4 treasure chests (4000 points).
- This can count as a secret within a secret. After secret #2, head over to the cave marked as 4. Shoot the back wall. It will crumble, exposing another stream of purple. Jump in, and hidden there is a Sirian Power Gun.

- Before when the catwalk starts to go down, jump under it and take the treasure chest (1000 points).
