The MK IV Grenade Launcher is a weapon that appears in Serious Sam 2. It is the successor to the MK III Grenade Launcher.

Overview[]

The MK IV fires one grenade each time the fire key is pressed. Grenades will either explode upon contact with an enemy or three seconds after it has been fired. Grenades will bounce against a wall if it hits one. The grenade launcher can be charged up, which will affect the trajectory of the grenade, but not how much damage the grenade will deal to a target. If not charged up, it will be launched at a low speed and not travel far. If charged up, though, it will travel farther and faster. Regardless of the charge, the grenade will always inflict 135 damage (35 direct + 100 splash).

If the player fires a grenade and it touches them, it will explode upon contact, which can deal a high amount of damage.

Appearances[]

Unlike the MK III, the MK IV is quite rare, appearing only in the endgame levels, namely Area 5100, Shield Generator, and Siriusopolis Downtown.

Tactics[]

  • The MK IV's grenades significantly bounce more than the grenades fired by the MK III, making lobbing grenades around corners much more useful and practical because of the improved physics system.
  • Charged up grenades can be very useful against medium-strength foes because of its power and speed, but the player should remember that, if a grenade misses, there is a chance of the grenade flying back due to its high speed.
  • Like the MK III, uncharged grenades can be used to take down tightly-packed groups of weak enemies, such as Orc Grunts. It is also effective against groups of Kleer Skeletons and other medium-strength enemies.
  • Charged up grenades are not recommended to be used in tight spaces because of the possibility of splash damage and because how fast the grenade is. A fast grenade bounces around longer, making a missed shot very dangerous.
  • As of Update 2.90, the MK IV can be dual-wielded, making it much more effective. If dual-wielding MK IVs, it is best to not fire both weapons simultaneously at close range due to the risk of the grenades exploding very close to each other and severely harming or even killing the player.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

  • Early screenshots show the MK IV having a functioning digital screen, just like the XPML30 Rocket Launcher. This was cut before the game's release, but was added back after the latest patch.

Trivia[]

  • The MK IV's ammo pickup model is the same as the model used for the MK III's ammo in Serious Sam 1.
  • The MK IV's grenade beeping sound was later reused for the MK III's grenade projectiles in Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem.
