The life control unit is a device used by some of Mental's forces, most particularly beheaded Sirian infantry.

Overview

The life control unit is an electronic device that was created at some point by Mental, most likely after the Sirian race went extinct after he attacked their homeworld. It is implanted into the neck of beheaded infantry that have been resurrected with Mental's cyber-zombie technology. In other creatures, such as Cloned Soldiers, it is implanted on the face and covers the majority of the face and eyes.

Functionality

The LCU is functioned to augment the user's brain and controls most high-level functions of the central nervous system. In beheaded Sirian troops, the life control unit replaces the functionality of the upper part of the central nervous system, essentially acting as a 'brain'. The device is also equipped with a vocal synthesizer and crude sensory modules. Appearance-wise, the life control unit is implanted on the neck or the head with one or more red mechanical 'eyes'. These eyes allow the user to see in dark or foggy conditions.

The device has a few flaws and limitations, and it does not grant the user free will or control over the device. As it is of Mental's design, the user is forced to obey orders from Mental's headquarters and to blindly seek out designated targets.

Appearances

In most games it appears in, the life control unit is not seen but only mentioned by NETRICSA. It is first actually seen in Serious Sam 3: BFE on Beheaded Kamikazes, Beheaded Rocketeers and Cloned Soldiers. In Serious Sam 4, it is given a different design which is quite similar to that of the Serious Sam 3 version.
