The Jetpack is a device introduced in Serious Sam 3: BFE. It later makes an appearance in Jewel of the Nile and Serious Sam 3 VR: BFE.
Overview[]
The jetpack is a medium-sized metal object with two exhaust pipes coming out of it and has Mental's Horde's logo on each side. It allows the user to fly for a certain period of time. The jetpack is useful for navigating over obstacles and getting to other areas quicker than usual.
When the jump key is pressed, (Spacebar by default) the jetpack lets the user fly upwards to a certain level. In addition, the user's speed when flying with the jetpack is notably faster than just walking. They also become immune to fall damage when it is equipped, as falling will trigger the jetpack to activate automatically without having to use the jump button.
Appearances[]
Serious Sam 3: BFE[]
The jetpack is a very rare object, and only appears once in the campaign, during the boss fight against Ugh-Zan IV in The Guardian of Time. It is required to be used during the fight, otherwise defeating Ugh-Zan will be impossible.
Jewel of the Nile[]
In Jewel of the Nile, the jetpack can be found in the final level, Born Again, in the weapons depot, where the player needs to use it to cross over the dam and other high obstacles in the area.
Tactics[]
- When using the jetpack, make sure to keep an eye on the overheating meter. If the meter gets too high, the player will be forced to land and stay on the ground for a few seconds until the meter cools down.
- In Jewel of the Nile, the jetpack is very useful for reaching places to reach health, armor or ammo that would otherwise be out of reach. There are also two secrets in the level that can be accessed with the jetpack.
- During the fight with Ugh-Zan, if the player flies far enough into the open desert to provoke the Sandwhale, the jetpack will conveniently overheat instantly and won't cool down until they return to solid ground.
Trivia[]
- The jetpack uses the same model as the jetpack used by the flying Orc Commander from Serious Sam 2, but instead is recolored gray.
- The Mental's Horde logo on the jetpack is the same one that appears on the Kozak Helicopter from Serious Sam 2.
- The jetpack can be easily damaged by water, as seen in Jewel of the Nile when it ends up unusable once Sam enters some water after traversing through a pipe.
