Jack of the Jungle is the second level and environment of I Hate Running Backwards.

Overview[]

Jack of the Jungle is an environment set in a jungle (probably in Mexico or South America) with Aztec-themed architecture mixed in, making some parts of the level resemble Teotihuacan. This environment also has a lot of cliffs and pitfalls, making it dangerous if the player is not quick enough to avoid them.

The enemies featured in this level are Beheaded Bombers, Beheaded Kamikazes, Bloaters, and Kleer Skeletons. There are also lots of traps, such as minefields, arrow traps, explosive barrels and statues on walls that fire cannonballs at the player. This, combined with the narrow areas of the level make it challenging for unexperienced players.

The boss of this level is the Scrapjack.

Gameplay[]

The area occasionally changes to a plains-like environment with obstacles in the middle of the path, and areas with lots of cliffs where the path becomes a lot more narrower. These cliff areas will sometimes force players to one side, but occasionally there will be the choice between going left or right, each path having some different items.

To aid the player in these areas, there are bridges which extend from one area to the next. It is dangerous to cross them however, as some of them are narrow, or have a wall-mounted cannon head guarding their path. There are also minefields which the player must find a safe path through to cross without taking any damage from the mines scattered on the ground.

Trivia[]

  • The name of the level is a play on the name of the 1997 comedy movie George of the Jungle. "George" is replaced with "Jack", referring to the Scrapjack, the boss of this level.
