This subject appears in Serious Sam: Double D.

The Insane-brand Chainsaw is a melee weapon that appears in Serious Sam: Double D and Serious Sam: Double D: XXL.

Overview[]

The insane-brand chainsaw is a red chainsaw, and resembles the P-LAH Chainsaw in appearance. The weapon does a medium amount of damage per slice, but has unlimited ammunition. Its limited range prevents it from being used from any range beyond short range.

Appearances[]

The chainsaw is first obtained in Pyramid Looting. A few more appear throughout the game, and sometimes in secrets.

Upgrades[]

Aside from the golden version of this weapon, which deals double damage, the chainsaw can receive several other upgrades. They can only be purchased in the XXL version from The Trader. The last upgrade, Gib-Gib, is unlocked after beating the game for the first time.

Insane-brand Chainsaw Money Grubber Money Grubber ($150)
Sucks in currency drops in a large radius while the chain is actually running.
Insane-brand Chainsaw Violent de Graaff Violent de Graaff ($300)
The chainsaw becomes a charge weapon. The chain feeds into a Van de Graff generator, building a charge as it moves. Touch to enemies to discharge. Discharges on ground too.
Insane-brand Chainsaw Mini-jump Pad Launcher Mini-jump Pad Launcher ($100)
Fires out many, smaller jump pads. Use to launch enemies into the air.
Insane-brand Chainsaw Gib-Gib Gib-Gib ($400)
Fires man-sized yoyo's with chainsaw blades. Hold the trigger to keep the Gib-Gib running and out.

Tactics[]

  • The chainsaw's limited range makes it useful as a close-quarters weapon. It can tear though weak enemies quickly, making it handy for eliminating nearby weak enemies without having to use up ammo for other weapons.
  • The chainsaw's somewhat-low damage makes it a poor choice to use against stronger enemies. Other weapons would do much more damage at the chainsaw's range against those enemies.
  • This weapon works very well when paired with the 0-4377 Flamethrower. Both weapons are built for close-quarters and supplement each other's weaknesses. The chainsaw can harm the closest enemy to the player, while the flamethrower will damage any enemies just past the chainsaw.
  • It also works well as a personal defense weapon when placed on the very bottom of a stack. This lets the player kill any weak enemies that approach them while preventing them from wasting ammo for other weapons or being in danger of an explosive weapon hitting the weak enemy when its near the player, harming the player.
  • The Money Grubber upgrade is very useful for collecting Cerebral Controllers, especially in hard to reach places.
  • The Gib-Gib upgrade works well for covering the player's rear while being attacked by groups of enemies in all directions.
