"We are your biggest fans, man!"
―Ledov introduces himself and his valiant squad to Sam[src]

Igor Ledov was the leader of an infamous squad of partisans who fought against Mental's forces and the Octanians in Siberia, Russia, during the Tunguska Offensive. He serves as the deuteragonist of Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem.

Biography[]

Ledov was born in Tomsk, Russia. In his younger years, he was a well-known member of the Siberian Anarchist Movement, promoting absolute freedom and rejecting all forms of authority.[1] He was also the frontman of the popular underground punk-rock band Undertow, which achieved considerable notoriety for two provocative albums titled "The Morning Lobotomy" and "Chronicle of a Death Foretold".[1]

The bombing of Ledov's band's recording studio was the final straw for him, which prompted him to assemble his own partisan detachment and fight for his comrades against the alien oppressors. Shortly after forming his squad, Natasha, a member of his devoted fan club, joined his ranks,[2] followed by the mysterious and quiet Vlad, and, lastly, the stubborn yet determined Ivan, the latter of whom Ledov had rescued while sabotaging an Octanian Harvester Leviathan, in order to rescue the victims that had been abducted by Harvester Drones who were on the verge of becoming processed.[3]

Appearances[]

Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem[]

Ledov is heard broadcasting on a radio at the Thunderbird Oil Refinery, inside the communications tower, telling anyone in the area that, should they spot a plane with Triple-A signs on it, they are to shoot it down on sight. Sam contacts Ledov, who is surprised and excited to hear the voice of the legendary Serious Sam himself. He tells Ledov that is unsure of where exactly he is, and the only thing he does know is that he's at a refinery. Ledov tells Sam that he is some distance away from the nearest settlement, so he advises him to proceed south to the village of Kalinovka, where he and his band of partisans will be awaitng him.[4] Sam is about to reply but he is suddenly interrupted by the appearance of a Technopolyp, which forces Sam to jump from the comm tower and into the dam below. Ledov contacts Sam again about his instructions, but he decides to call Sam back at a later time due to the awkwardness of the situation that Sam has gotten himself in.[4]

Sam meets Ledov

Ledov introduces himself and his squad to Sam.

Later, while Sam is on his way to meet up with Ledov, he can be heard having a conversation with his right hand man, Ivan, who excitedly tells him that he had the pleasure of getting to talk to the infamous Serious Sam on the radio. Ivan, confused, says he doesn't know any "Sirius Sams", which annoys Ledov.[5]

Sam finally meets up with Ledov after traversing through the Siberian countryside. Sam makes it to a village where Ledov's Squad is stationed, but Ivan doesn't trust Sam, seeing as he doesn't know who he is.[6] Ledov is forced to calm him down, and introduces himself and his squad to Sam. The team assemble and fight their way through Mental's forces until they eventually reach a trainyard. There, Ledov plans to use a locomotive to assist Sam and get him to Tunguksa as soon as possible. Sam holds off Mental's forces while Ledov and his team connect the locomotive to a train car.[6]

With the trainyard secure, Sam and Ledov depart to Ustinov, a town located not far from Tunguska, and enjoy some quality time together. Ledov and Sam exit the train and make their way for the town, which is currently being occupied by Mental's Horde and Octanian troops. They eventually make their way to the other part of town after some heavy fighting, and Ledov is caught off-guard after he saw the remains of Pavlov's Squad.[7] Sam, suspecting that something isn't quite right, tries to warn Ledov, but some Octanian Raiders appear and begin bombing the town, separating Sam from Ledov and his squad.

Ledov's last stand

Levod sacrifices himself to halt Mental's forces.

Suddenly, Howard Brand appears and threatens Sam and Ledov with Ivan's life. Ivan says he would rather die at the hands of the enemy rather than surrender, and Brand kills him right in front of Ledov. This greatly enrages him, and he decides to follow Brand by making his way to the damn. Natasha and Vlad are soon overwhelmed by Mental's armies and killed, leaving Ledov the sole survivor. Taking one last stand, Ledov sees a bag of C-4 explosives, and grabs the detonator. Smiling, he detonates the explosives, killing Mental's forces and halting their advance, but at the cost of his own life.[7]

In a post-credits scene, Sam appears out of a portal and puts Ledov's guitar on a stove next to his grave as a sign of respect.

Relationships[]

Sam Stone[]

Ledov greatly respected Sam, and had a huge amount of admiration for him. So much, in fact, that he considered himself and his partisans as Sam's "biggest fans".[6] Like many others, Ledov saw Sam as a living legend, and was highly impressed with his skills, especially when Sam helped defend the latter and his comrades at the trainyard against Mental's forces.

Ivan Pakhomov[]

Ivan and Ledov were very close. He was one of Ledov's comrades, and the two respected one another. Ledov did, however, get frustrated with Ivan when he aimed his gun at Sam since Ivan didn't know who Serious Sam was and was distrustful of him.[5]

When Brand killed Ivan, Ledov was deeply enraged and saddened by his death. Ledov charged straight towards the Ustinov Dam, with Natasha and Vlad in tow, just to track down Brand and kill him to personally avenge Ivan.[7]

Natasha Maksimova[]

Natasha was one of Ledov's biggest fans and a member of his fan club. When Ledov decided to retire from being a musician in favor or forming a band of guerilla fighters, Natasha was the first to join out of devotion and admiration for Ledov.[2] Whenever Ledov requested Natasha for something or gave her orders, she would not hesitate to do whatever it was that she was instructed.

Vlad Sorokin[]

Ledov respected Vlad and knew that, from his skills in military training, he would be a valuable and useful asset to the team.[8]

Howard Brand[]

He harbored intense hatred towards Brand. Ledov was one of the few who was already well aware of Brand's treachery towards humanity.

When the twisted general made a sudden appearance in Ustinov and killed Ivan right in front of Ledov and his team, he became greatly enraged and opened fire on Brand, though the bullets had virtually no effect on him due to his enhanced abilities granted to him by the False Grail. Ledov was also surprised at the fact that Brand was still alive, as he was widely believed to be dead.[7]

Personality and skills[]

"My temper is… explosive!"
―Ledov's final words as he is about to sacrifice himself

Prior to the war, Ledov was a skilled musician, and was talented at playing the guitar. He was an anarchist, and believed in and fought for freedom. Furthermore, he believed that people did not deserve to be enslaved or ruled by their oppressors.[1] From time to time, Ledov's views often shifted; at times he considered himself a nihilist, a Buddhist, a communist, and a lolcatist. When Mental's Horde attacked the human colonies, Ledov initially took a misanthropic position, claiming the war would "cleanse this (humanity) goddamn civilization". But, when Mental invaded Earth, Ledov changed his mind, realizing that alien authority would be no less oppressive than any other, and that the anarchy of war was purely destructive.[1]

Powers and abilities[]

Ledov fighting Khnum

Ledov takes on a Khnum, one of the toughest creatures seen in Mental's army.

  • Weapon Proficiency: In combat, Ledov wielded two AK-74MXs, and was quite proficient in firearms, despite not having received any form of military training. He was skilled enough to take on Mental's forces when fighting alongside his squad and Sam.
  • Combat Skills and Experience: Ledov had proved to a worthy opponent against Mental's forces in combat situations, despite not being a trained soldier like Sam or Hellfire. He was able to hold out on his own for a while, and was even able to take on a Khnum, one of the toughest creatures seen in Mental's Horde, and kill it upon unloading almost an entire magazine into its mouth.[7] Ledov was able to carry on fighting for a while, even after the loss of his Natasha and Vlad, and did whatever it took to halt the enemy forces despite his injuries.
  • Skilled Musician: Ledov was a talented musician. Prior to the outbreak of the war, he took on the role of his band's lead guitarist. The instrument Ledov was most familiar and skilled with was his signature guitar.[1] He took his guitar everywhere he went, and would play it on occasions when not engaged in combat.
  • Leadership: Ledov excelled in his skills in leadership. His comrades would obey his orders with any hesistancy or question, and harbored a great amount of respect for him.

Behind the scenes[]

  • Upon the game's release, Ledov only held a single piece of C-4 during his death scene, shoving it into the throat of a Gnaar that was immediately trying to bite him. It was later changed to him kicking over a bag stuffed with C-4 explosives.
