The Hoverboard Scooter is a gadget and vehicle featured in Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem.
Overview[]
Originally designed and marketed as a recreational product for a younger audience, the hoverboard's popularity among adults led to many knock-off models and modifications being created. This led to a high rate of lethal accidents, which ultimately resulted in all recreational anti-gravity vehicles receiving a worldwide ban at the end of the twenty-first century.[1] The hoverboard received a resurgence of popularity during Mental's invasion on Earth, with EDF spec-ops agents and partisans using them to quickly and quietly traverse enemy territory. Some even added state-of-the-art laser guns with techno-magical ammunition replenishers (TMAR), which unfortunately took a toll on the device's battery life.[1]
When deployed with the primary fire key, the player will automatically mount the hoverboard and be able to control it. The same controls for controlling a vehicle apply to the hoverboard, and the player can fire its guns with the primary fire key.
The hoverboard has a limited battery life, as indicated on the player's HUD. Using the hoverboard will deplete its battery, and firing its weapons depletes it even faster. Once its battery count reaches 0, it will explode and the player will be dismounted from it. Like other vehicles, the hoverboard has limited health, and will be destroyed if its health is depleted. The player can dismount the hoverboard with the USE key.
Appearances[]
Hoverboards are fairly common gadgets. The first hoverboard can be found in "Siberiade"; in the side mission "Hide and Seek", the ghost of the little girl reveals three L.I.F.E.s and a briefcase containing a hoverboard after Sam returns her belongings to her. Like other gadgets, more hoverboards can be found as secrets throughout the second half of the game.
Tactics[]
- The hoverboard's excellent speed, mobility, firepower and added protection make it ideal for any combat encounter. A single hoverboard is capable of taking down a Cryomorph Gnaar and an Octanian Sentry Tower.
- Be wary of the hoverboard's limited battery. Moving around and shooting its guns both rapidly deplete the hoverboard's energy.

- The achievement "Back to the Future", as well as the mention of "Hill Valley production facilities bombing" in NETRICSA's description, is a reference to the 1985 American science fiction film Back to the Future.
- The hoverboard's engine reuses the Witch-Bride of Achriman's idle sound from Serious Sam 3: BFE.
- The hoverboard's lasers reuse the Minor Bio-mechanoid's firing sound.
