The Holodecoy is a gadget introduced in Serious Sam 4.
Overview[]
The holodecoy is a device designed by the Earth Defense Force. It is attached to a small set of wheels that enables it to move around on its own. When used, it display a hologram of the person who is using it. It can also used by EDF personnel to communicate with others from far distances.[1]
The device can also be used in combat situations to distract enemy forces. When deployed, the holodecoy will display a hologram of Sam and move around in random directions for a short period of time.[2] After its timer expires, it will explode. Any enemies in the vicinity will attack the decoy instead of the user. It has been optimized for maximum annoyance so that even the smarter members of Mental's Horde will be irritated enough to attack it.[2]

Serious Sam 4[]
The first holodecoy can be seen in a cutscene which shows Gottlieb Kiesel using one in the briefing room after the Alien Artifact Acquisition squad arrive at the EDF base. In-game, the holodecoy is a rather uncommon gadget that can sometimes be found in secrets or as a reward for completing side quests. It is first obtained in the level "Death from Above" after completing the "Over the Wall" side quest.
Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem[]
The only holodecoys that appear in-game are broken ones, and cannot be used by the player. They can only be obtained in modded versions or by placing it in custom maps with the Serious Editor.
Tactics[]
- Ideally, the holodecoy should be used in situations where the player is being overwhelmed or cornered by enemies, or when a big fight breaks out. When the enemies are distracted by it, finish them off before it explodes.
- The holodecoy works very well when used alongside other gadgets, such as Hacked Drones and Psychotropic Grenades. This maximizes the effectiveness of the gadget and gives the player enough time to finish them off.

When a holodecoy is deployed, there are many quotes that are said by the decoy version of Sam:

Trivia[]
- One of Sam's decoy's quotes is a play on Princess Leia's famous quote in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.
- Another quote is a reference to Bart Simpson's famous catchphrase, "Eat my shorts!".
- In first-person, Sam holds the holodecoy with two hands, while in third-person, he can be seen holding it with just one hand.
