The Heliopora is an enemy that appears in Serious Sam: Tormental.

Overview[]

The Heliopora is a large cephalopod that has been outfitted with laser technology, activating upon any large impact with a very brief charging period. Only the force created by these creatures hopping is enough to trigger these lasers, so the player can whack them away with the Sledgehammer without having to worry about being hit by the lasers.

Appearances[]

The Heliopora only appears in Sea of Thoughts. An elite variant of the Heliopora exists once the player completes a loop for the first time. The elite Heliopora is slightly larger than the regular variant and has a red outline surrounding its body.

Behavior and skills[]

The Heliopora's only attack is to fire lasers from the four holes on its body. These beams can deal a large amount of damage. There is a brief charging period before they are fired. The elite variant fires lasers more frequently that deal more damage, making them even more dangerous.

Tactics[]

  • Be careful not to get cornered, as the lasers have no travel time and hit everything in their path at the same time, so either evade the lasers by jumping or try to hide behind cover.
  • Because their lasers deal so much damage, they should be avoided whenever possible. They are exceptionally dangerous in groups.
  • The Heliopora can be defeated with powerful pistol upgrades, such as the rapid fire, fire bullet or explosive bullet upgrades.
  • Strong weapons like the Bomber or Rocket are effective against the Heliopora.
  • Like other enemies, the player can finish it off with a brutal kill by dashing into it once it receives a yellow outline on its body after its health becomes low.
  • When encountered with other enemies, the Heliopora is a high-priority target. Its beams can deal a large amount of damage if the player is not careful. Be sure to target the Heliopora first to reduce the chances of losing a lot of health.

Trivia[]

  • In real life, Heliopora is a genus of cnidarian. A well-known member of this genus is called blue coral.
