The Hacked Drone is a gadget introduced in Serious Sam 4. It makes a second appearance in the expansion pack Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem.

Overview[]

The hacked drone is a reconfigured Octanian Combat Drone. Its morphological identification of friend-or-foe system has been hacked and its definitions have been swapped so it will attack its own side.[1] Once deployed, it will follow the player and protect them from any nearby enemies, firing at them until its batteries run out. After the drone's timer expires, it will explode.

Hacked drones are uncommon gadgets. They are first obtained in A Breakfast in France in the "Droning On" side objective that involves hacking the Propaganda Drones. Four of them can be acquired once the player completes the side objective. They can occasionally be found in secrets in the later levels.

Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem[]

Hacked drones are much rarer than before and are mostly found in secrets. One of them appears normally in the final level, Crime And Punishment.

Tactics[]

  • Hacked drones are best used in situations such as when the player is low on ammo for most of their weapons or if they are struggling to fight off a large horde of enemies.
  • As hacked drones don't last very long, another drone should be deployed as soon as the previous one explodes if the player is planning on using many of them.
  • As enemies will target drones (even though their attacks do virtually no damage to it), they can serve as a useful distraction if the player is being overwhelmed by medium to large-sized groups of enemies.

Behind the scenes[]

  • The drone's lights were originally colored white. This was changed to light green to distinguish it from combat drones in a patch.

Trivia[]

  • The hacked drone fires green lasers instead of red ones like the normal Octanian drones do. This helps to distinguish it from the latter.
