The gun functions just like any handgun from theSerious Sam games; it has a decent rate of fire and infinite ammo (unless the player changes this option in the (Frontal Lobe) but low damage output. Thus, it is only useful against weak enemies or as a last resort. With weapon upgrades, however, it becomes much more useful, allowing the player to take out tougher targets with it, particularly when ammo for serious weapons run low.
The gun can receive many modifications which are usually obtained after defeating the boss of a level. They can also be obtained from shops using figments. Some mods have upgrades as well that can improve that mod. These mod upgrades are much rarer than the usual weapon mods and have a rare chance to appear from large chests. After being upgraded, the gun's name will correspond to the name of the upgrade. For instance, the gun with the freeze shot and burstenize upgrades will be called "icey megaburstgun".
Each character uses a unique variation of the gun; NETRICSA, for example has a version of the gun called the "diskgun" which fires sawblade-like projectiles instead of bullets, while Bomb's gun (called the "rocksgun") fires bullets that curve slightly and track the target. Bad Bulb has a special version of this gun called the "energy gun".
Appearances[]
The gun, along with the Sledgehammer, is one of two weapons the player starts with upon starting a new game in the Frontal Lobe.
Upgrades[]
The gun can receive multiple perks, but can only carry six by default:
Boomerang
Bullets fly back after reaching max range.
Burstenize
The gun fires three shots at once.
Conductor
Bullets shock nearby enemies.
Enemy bounce
Bullets have a chance to ricochet towards the closest enemy.
Enemy piercing
Bullets pierce through enemies.
Fire bullets
The gun has a chance to shoot fire bullets that can burn enemies.
Freeze shot
Bullets have a chance to freeze enemies.
Heavy bullets
Bullets push back enemies.
Homing bullets
Bullets track enemies.
Machinegun
The gun gains a high rate of fire but has lower accuracy.
Minigun
The gun's rate of fire steadily increases over time. The player's movement speed is drastically reduced when firing.
Shotgun
The gun fires several bullets in a row that spread out and have increased damage, but at the cost of shorter range.
Sidefire
The gun fires two extra bullets that have shorter range.
Sniper
Bullets travel further and are fired more accurately. Slight chance to deal 100 damage to enemy.
Wallnut
Bullets that touch walls will explode, producing bouncing projectiles that deal additional damage.
Wall ricochet
Bullets ricochet off walls.
Tactics[]
The gun is useful for clearing out weak enemies such as Gonks, Lizards, Snorklers, etc., but not great against tough enemies like Cerebulls, Gunrillas or Red Widows unless the player has good upgrades for it.
If the player has to use the gun, they should only use it if no other weapons or ammo is available.
With upgrades, this increases the gun's potential during the later levels.
