General Maxilla is the main antagonist of Serious Sam: Double D and Serious Sam: Double D: XXL. He is also fought as the game's penultimate "boss".

Biography

Maxilla was one of Mental's servants, ranking as a general in his army. He appeared to be involved in Mental's latest scheme, and was also responsible for monsters and crystal beacons appearing in three separate time periods.

Maxilla has a brother called The Trader who, unlike Maxilla, is friendly towards Sam and does not have a connection to Mental's forces. According to the Trader, he and Maxilla did not get along very well.

Serious Sam: Double D

General Maxilla was behind the plot of the game and the reason for the crystal beacons and Mental's minions appearing. It seems that Mount Vesuvius in Pompeii was a part of his ultimate goal, as he had built an underground base in it, most likely to harvest the energy in it for something evil.

When Sam was ruining his plans, he could be seen reviewing the brigades of monsters Mental sent him. Some of them were eager to fight for Mental, some he was astonished by (such as the Chimputee), while others blew up in his face, making him request more.

When Sam got close to him, he began threatening Sam over a loudspeaker and told him that he was going to kill Sam. However, it turned out his real goal was that he wanted Sam dead as soon as possible because there was a huge rerun marathon for a TV show he liked, and he really wanted to watch it.

After Sam finally reached him, he challenged Sam to a fight. However, he was pathetic and quickly killed by Sam. However, as he was dying, he summoned Double Diva to finish off Sam. Sam killed her and destroyed the crystal beacon she had, finishing off both Maxilla and his scheme within a few minutes.

Tactics

• All the player has to do is shoot him. He just floats around while sparkles come out of him. He can't harm the player at all.

Personality and skills

Personality-wise, Maxilla had a rather arrogant outlook on things, and underestimated the strength of his opponents, such as when he fought Sam. He thought he had what it took to take Sam on, but was quickly defeated by him.

He harbored a deep hatred for Sam and wished nothing more than for him to die just so he could watch his TV show.

Appearance

Maxilla appears to be a mixture of an American Civil War general and an insect. His outfit and design is inspired by outfits worn by American Civil War generals, while his face has a wasp's mouth on it and a few antennae. His hands have also been replaced with organic, claw-like fingers.
