Dr. Daniel Platt, also known as 'Voodoochopsticks', is a minor non-playable character who appears in Serious Sam's Bogus Detour.

Biography[]

Very little information is known about him and his past. At some point in his life, he used to be a Zorg, but he became mutated by the Ooze that he used on himself, turning him into an Orc. Like the rest of his race, he was exiled to the planet Orazio, and there they founded the Altani corporation, a planetary mining company.[1] Eventually, the company was discovered by Mental and became known as Mental-Altani. Dr. Platt soon become one of their head researchers in the corporation, and became Chief Engineer of the Ooze Project.[2] He had his own laboratory set up on the Moon base where he conducted various tests and experiments involving the ooze on enhanced subjects, such as Infected Gnaars.

Serious Sam's Bogus Detour[]

Dr. Platt is only found on the Mental-Altani Moon base, in the level Illogical Biological, though he is not always found in the same place, as his spawn is always randomised in every playthrough. Killing him will make him drop the Certified Eye, an item that is required for unlocking the door that grants access to his lab room.

Trivia[]

  • Dr. Platt is the character featured playing Serious Sam's Bogus Detour on a monitor on the loading screen when the player starts a new game.
    • The final level of the game also features Dr. Platt. The outcome of whether or not the player escapes from the base determines Dr. Platt's actions; if the player fails to escape the Moon base before it explodes, a game over screen will show an intoxicated Platt hanging on the edge of his apartment balcony, and his controller can be seen thrown into the monitor. Finishing the game and escaping the base in time depicts Dr. Platt being happier and more cheerful.
    • The name of the brand his monitor is manufactured by, 'Panasamic', is a play on Panasonic, a Japanese company that manufactures home appliances, TVs, cameras, and a range of other products.
