Extra Small Armor (Metal Shard in Serious Sam: Double D) is an item that appears throughout the Serious Sam series.

Overview[]

Extra small armor is the weakest armor pickup in the series. The amount of armor points it gives depends on the game. In most games, it will give the player one armor point. In Serious Sam 2 and Serious Sam: Next Encounter, it gives the player 5 armor points.

In all games excluding Serious Sam 2 and Next Encounter, extra small armor lets the player exceed the normal 100 armor point cap and go up to 200 armor points.

Appearances[]

In its appearances, a single armor shard is often used as a booby trap to spawn in more enemies (e.g. Gnaars or a Kleer Skeleton flanking and jumping the player). Groups of extra small armor can be safe depending on the context. If one appears after the player picks up another one, it's usually leading to a trap where an enemy spawns at the end of the armor chain. If they're just sitting around, they usually aren't a trap.

In Serious Sam 4, enemies will sometimes drop a few armor shards after death if the player has the Looter Shooter skill unlocked.

Trivia[]

  • Small Armor in Serious Sam's Bogus Detour uses the same texture as the Serious Sam 1 and Serious Sam HD versions of extra small armor.
  • Extra small armor's design varies between games:
    • In Serious Sam 1, Serious Sam: Next Encounter, Serious Sam HD, it is a yellow shield with a diagonal red stripe across it.
    • In Serious Sam 2, it is a blue and yellow medieval helmet with designs on it.
    • In Serious Sam: Double D, it is a yellow shield with a thumbs up sign on it.
    • In Serious Sam 3: BFE, it is a plate of armor in a sack.
    • In Serious Sam 4 and Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem, it is a leather pouch.
