The English airman is an unseen character who is heard throughout audio logs in Serious Sam 4.

Biography

Not much is known about the English airman. It's also not known if he's a soldier working for the Earth Defense Force or a member of a resistance group. He is known to have a connection with the French Resistance, as heard from his audio logs. He was also acquainted with Michelle, the leader of the French Resistance cell in Carcassonne.

At some point in his life, he became an airman and was in a plane heading for France. His plane was shot down by an Octanian Raider, but he survived. He and the rest of his men were greeted by the French Resistance, who let them stay at a military compound for a few days. The airman and the resistance feared that the base would soon come under attack by Mental's forces, which it did, but they emerged victorious after a fierce battle.

After the battle, the airman decided to treat his comrades to his grandmother's famous "Mushroom Surprise", and picked some mushrooms in the nearby woods as the main ingredient needed for the recipe. Little did the airman realise, though, is that the mushrooms had hallucinogenic properties, causing anyone to eat them to enter a state of "uncontrollable rage". The airman reported that the French troops had already succumbed to its effects and "ran off into the night in hardly their PJs in pursuit of alien imperialists to slay". The airman reports that he had also eaten the mushrooms and can be heard ranting and shouting, clearly indicating that he was under its effects as well.

He was acquanited with Michelle and the French Resistance. He said he was excited to be looking forward to seeing her sometime after he arrived in France.

Personality and skills

He is portrayed as being happy, calm and relaxed, even in combat situations. He knew how to cook, as he was able to mesmerize a recipe of his grandmother's which involved mushrooms, which he liked to call his grandmama's famous Mushroom Surprise. However, after ingesting the mushrooms, he fell into a rapid, euphoric state of rage.

Appearance

As the English airman does not appear in-game, it is hard to discern a physical description of him. He is obviously of British descent, as heard by his accent, and sounds to be a young man in his early to mid twenties or thirties.

Trivia

• The airman's grandmother's Mushroom Surprise is a reference to the food item of the same name prepared by Miss Mush in the Wayside School series of children's books. Like the latter, it causes unintended (and, often disastrous) side effects to those who eat it, causing them to enter a trance-like state where they are unable to control themselves.
