The Drone is an enemy that appears in Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope.

Overview

The drone is a small aerial vehicle that has four lights on its front, which glow red. They often fly around in a certain pattern and in large numbers. They are programmed to blindly attack their targets.

Application

Used in large numbers during the Mental War on various planets, drones are usually deployed to harass the planet's inhabitants or to quickly wipe out localized populations.

Appearances

Drones are relatively common throughout the game. They first appear in Pladeonic Oil Works. They first appear in small groups before appearing in large hordes in the later levels.

Behavior and skills

When a drone spots the target, it will fire a random amount of red non-tracking projectiles at them, which can range from only one to three. This is their only attack. They have low health points and can easily be destroyed with small-arms fire.

Tactics

• Alone, drones are not much of a threat. They are relatively weak, so a few shots from dual-wielded SOP38 Pistols can destroy them.
• Their projectiles are rather easy to destroy, and if the player doesn't has time to shoot them, they can be deflected with the shield.
• Medium-sized groups of drones can be taken out with rapid-fire weapons, such as the Thompson submachine gun.
• Extremely large groups of drones can be taken out with explosive weapons, such as the A-24 Devastator, explosive arrows fired from the Bow and the XPML21 Rocket Launcher. These weapons can destroy multiple Drones with one shot. The Laser Sword is also effective against them.
• When appearing with other enemies, the threat drones pose depends on their numbers. Alone, they are not much of a threat, as they can be easily destroyed while the player is killing other enemies, but larger groups of them should be taken out quickly due to the sheer number of projectiles they fire, which can be troublesome while the player is focusing on other enemies.
