―Charlie explains to Sam why she defected to join the Resistance[src]

Charch-gach-zrallma Gchhuck-iargh, or more commonly referred to as Charlie, is an Adult Arachnoid who defected from Mental's army and serves as an informant in the French Resistance. She is a minor supporting character introduced in Serious Sam 4.

Biography[]

Charlie was born on the home planet of the Arachnoids known as Scorpius. Her home planet is home to a faction of religious fanatics who were persuaded by Mental. Soon afterwards, a cult had arisen, and soon begun destroying anything that was considered sacred or of value to their culture.[1]

destroyed everything that was once sacred to them, and they eventually overthrew the High Council, became allies to Mental and joined his army.

When Mental started drafting young Arachnoids for his army, the French Resistance saw an opportunity to sabotage Mental's operations from the inside by cooperating with a defector to Mental's army, who happened to be Charlie.[1]

Charlie and Sam in sewers

Charlie with Sam and Sayid in the sewers.

Charlie is introduced to Sam, shortly after Michelle and Sayid go into the sewers to meet-up with her. Sam wants to know how long will it take for the informant to arrive, before being surprised at the sight of an Adult Arachnoid. Alarmed, he aims at the creature with his pistol. Michelle tells him that the Arachnoid is the informant, much to Sam's surprise. The Arachnoid tells Sam to calm down and that she's not a servant of Tah-Um as he might have initially suspected.[1]

Sam is perplexed, but agrees to go to the castle with Charlie. Sam asks the Arachnoid for its name, and she tells him her full name, but Sam decides to call her Charlie. The latter remembers that her brood mother used to call her that when she was a hatchling. Charlie informs Sam of her reasons for defecting to the French Resistance, as well as the cruel and savage ways Mental attempts to ally himself with the very worst in each alien civilization.[1]

As Sam makes it towards the entrance to the castle, he tells Charlie to tell Carter that the Arachnoids faked the moon landing. Charlie tells Sam that she is known for her practical jokes, but before she can finish talking, some Raiders ambush them and destroy the bridge, creating a gap between Sam and the rest of his team. Sam wants to cross the gap but Michelle tells him not to and that he should go to the castle since it's very important. Sam agrees and Charlie tells Sayid, Michelle and Father Mikhail that they will show Tah-Um how the free people of the galaxy stand together.[1]

Charlie is not seen again nor mentioned afterwards. It is probable that she survived and goes around helping the French Resistance the best she can.

Relationships[]

Sam Stone[]

Although tensions were high between them at first, as Sam had mistook for her a common enemy, Charlie managed to calm down and put him at ease, stating that her intentions were to help humanity and not be an ally of "Tah-Um the Mad".[1] Soon after, their relationship improved and they became friends. Charlie assisted Sam, Michelle and Sayid in combat as they pushed their way towards the castle, and showed no hesitation with taking down Mental's forces, despite her once being a member of his army. Her dislike of Mental's army and willingness to help humanity impressed Sam.[1]

Michelle Djabali[]

As an informant, Charlie proved to be a useful asset to the French Resistance. She helped leak intelligence from Mental's forces to the French Resistance and Michelle, which was useful for them knowing about the enemy's intentions and whereabouts.

Mental[]

At first devoted to Tah-Um, Charlie soon realized that Mental was a nothing but a self-serving and selfish wannabe deity who ended up destroying the High Council of Scorpious, when the Arachnoids destroyed thousands of years of Arachnoid culture after they joined Mental and began worshipping him as a god.[1] Charlie soon defected from Mental's Horde after seizing an opportunity to infiltrate Mental's operations from the inside after teaming up with the French Resistance.

Personality and skills[]

Charlie is the only known Arachnoid (or any member of Mental's army, for that matter) to defect from Mental's side and help join the humans. She is compassionate and sympathizes with the humans' cause, having gone through something similar on her home planet.

Like other Adult Arachnoids, Charlie is equipped with two chainguns, and is proficient in using them against Mental's forces.

Powers and abilities[]

  • Immense Strength: Charlie has demonstrated impressive strength, as shown when she was able to open the canal doors with mininal effort, thus allowing Sam, Michelle and Sayid to gain access to the castle.
  • Weapon Proficiency: Charlie is proficient with weapons, especially her signature twin chainguns. She used them to assist Sam and the French Resistance by mowing down any opponents that stood in her way.
  • Speed: Unusually for an Arachnoid, Charlie was very fast, and could quickly catch up with Sam, Michelle and Sayid as they made their way to the castle.

Behind the scenes[]

  • In a cut piece of dialogue, it was revealed that all of the Arachnoids on Earth, including Charlie, are female.[2]

Trivia[]

  • Although Charlie's fate is left unknown afterwards in the game, it is not unlikely to believe that she died following Mental's "mooning" of Earth at the end of Serious Sam 3: BFE.
  • Her mother was known to have called her Charlie, probably for the same reason why Sam preferred to call her by it.
  • She is the only known member of Mental's Horde seen in the series so far to have defected from his side.
    • Octanian Oleg may also be an exception, but he only appears as an Easter egg and as a player model, so this should not be considered canon.
  • She does not have a NETRICSA description, unlike many of the other characters. The same is shared with Sayid.
