The Calamari is an enemy that appears in Serious Sam: Tormental.

Overview

The Calamari is a cephalopod-based schema with one eye. There are two types of Calamari: the normal variant and an elite version called the Octopellet. The Octopellet has a red outline surrounding its body.

The creature was thought up by Mental as part of his imposing and cruel nature to torment it over and over in all sorts of experimental ways so he could more expertly terrorize planets.

Appearances

Calamari are only encountered in "Sea of Thoughts" along with other enemies. The Octopellet is rarer but has a higher chance to appear in "Sea of Thoughts V2" and "Sea of Thoughts V3".

Behavior and skills

Neurotic and volatile to an extreme degree, Calamari are not made to preserve themselves. Upon being approached by a target they rupture several methane sacs within their body that react violently with whatever atmosphere they come into contact with; the individual pieces of the creature are launched in all directions with enough force to punch through several inches of steel. The Octopellet releases twice as many pellets as the Calamari upon exploding.

Tactics

• The Calamari's projectiles can be avoided byr jumping over them or taking cover behind a wall. Their projectiles can also be deflected if the player has the Baseball Bat.
• An effective way of taking out the Calamari is shooting it with the The Gun, as after the pistol deals too much damage to the Calamari, it will explode, and the pistol's bullets long range means it is a bit less risky than baiting them to explode by going too close to them and moving away.
• When encountered with other enemies, its threat depends on how many amount of room the player can move around. In open spaces, it is not much of a threat, as the player can easily avoid its projectiles while the player is fighting over enemies. However, in much more closed areas, it is dangerous due to the sheer number of projectiles it launches after exploding, which gives the player much less room to dodge other enemy attacks.

• The name of this enemy is a reference to the culinary name for squid.
