"A mech... with a chainsaw. I love Russia!"
Sam Stone[src]

The Baby mech is a smaller version of the Mech introduced in Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem.

Overview[]

The baby mech is, as its name implies, a much smaller and inferior version of the mech that is used by the Earth Defense Force for heavy combat situations. Also, unlike the larger mech, these smaller ones are more suitable for industrial purposes, although once they are fitted with weaponry, they can be used for combat.[1]

While the baby mech is more diminutive in size, it is much faster and more agile than its larger counterpart. Like the larger mech, the baby mech has a boost that allows the vehicle to strafe in any direction. The mech is highly durable and resistant to small-arms fire, and can withstand a ton of damage before it is destroyed.

The baby mech comes with a heads-up display that shows the vehicle's status and comes with a health bar and ammo count meter. As the mech takes damage, its health bar will drop and the glass on the interior will begin to crack. When the mech has been critically damaged, a warning alarm will sound. If the mech is destroyed, the player will die and force them to reload to the last save point.

Weaponry[]

Unlike the larger mech that appears in Serious Sam 4, the baby mech has less weaponry, but can still deliver a powerful package to enemy forces. The mech's primary arnmanetn is a rapid-firing rocket launcher and a chainsaw. The chainsaw is used for slicing up masses of weak enemies at close-quarters, while the rocket launcher is intended to be used against large groups of weak enemies and for tougher opponents. The rocket launcher is fired with the primary fire key, and the chainsaw is used with the secondary fire key. The chainsaw inflicts 700 Piercing damage, allowing it to kill even big enemies quickly.

Appearances[]

Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem[]

The mech is found in a vehicle depot in the Thunderbird Oil Refinery, where Sam discovers that it is the only one left, seeing as all the others have been either used or destroyed. He enters the mech and uses its powerful weapons to make quick of Mental's forces, while also finding a way out of the refinery. Sam eventually reaches the exit, but is forced to exit the mech once its battery runs out.[1]

Tactics[]

  • Use the chainsaw to slice up groups of weak enemies like Gnaars, Octanian Commanders, and Octanian Gamma Troopers, or to finish off tough enemies.
  • It is only recommended to use the chainsaw on tough enemies like Adult Arachnoids, Khnums, or Major Bio-mechanoids if they have been stunned. Using it on them directly puts the mech in danger of being taking a rapid amount of damage in a short space of time. It is best to use the rocket launcher to wound them first and then finish them off with the chainsaw.
  • The rocket launcher is very useful for clearing large masses of enemies that will try to swarm the vehicle and for tougher enemies that are further away, such as Beheaded Kamikazes, Kleer Skeletons, Gnaars, Processed Anthropolyps, and Technopolyps.
  • If playing on New Game+, the player should concentrate their fire on the Cryomorph Gnaar Pair as much as possible rather than focus on the enemies that spawn alongside them.
  • Dodge the Gnaar Pair's projectiles by using the speed boost to sidestep out of the way or shooting them down with the rocket launcher.

Trivia[]

  • The mech's chainsaw reuses the FRPCL's chainsaw model.
  • According to a note found in the level the mech appears in, the chainsaws used by the vehicles are over 200 years old.[2]
  • There is a note that can be found in the warehouse next to where the mech is stored which mentions giant robots fighting each other. This is a reference to the science-fiction monster film Pacific Rim.
  • Sam's quote "I've got the moves like Jaeger" is a play on the song "Moves like Jagger" by Maroon 5, and Jaeger, a mech from the aforementioned Pacific Rim movie.
  • The achievement "Look Ma, I'm a Lumberjack!" is a reference to Sam's one-liner when picking up the P-LAH Chainsaw in Serious Sam: The Second Encounter.
