The Auto Shotgun is an automatic weapon that appears in Serious Sam 2 and Serious Sam's Bogus Detour.

Overview[]

The auto shotgun is an eight-barreled, automatic, mechanically indexing shotgun. When the fire key is pressed, one shell is shot, then the gun indexes to the next barrel. Since the gun automatically indexes to the next loaded barrel, rather than manually re-chambered with a pump, it has a slightly faster rate of fire over the 12 Gauge Pump-Action Shotgun, although the two are comparable.

Unlike the Serious Sam 1 shotguns, the auto shotgun has a very tight spread, making it usable at even long distance. In Serious Sam's Bogus Detour, the shotgun has a much wider spread, which reduces its range, but it has a much higher rate of fire.

Appearances[]

In Serious Sam 2, the auto shotgun is a fairly common weapon, appearing in the first or second levels of each episode, though in Serious Sam's Bogus Detour, it only appears once as a secret on the secret level Serious Sabotage.

Tactics[]

Serious Sam 2[]

  • In Serious Sam 2, the auto shotgun works best against weak enemies, such as Beheaded Kamikazes, Kleer Skeletons, and Orc soldiers. Its fire rate allows the player to tackle up even large groups of weak enemies with ease. It can be a useful alternate to the Colt Anaconda if the player needs to take out a group of small enemies, especially if they don't have enough time to use the Anaconda.
  • Because of its tight spread, the auto shotgun also works well against enemies at long range. However, it shouldn't be used against medium or strong enemies because of how little damage it does when the target starts coming close.
  • If the player switches their weapon directly after firing, and then switches immediately back to the shotgun, the player can fire without having to wait for the next barrel to line up. This allows the player to fire at a drastically increased firing rate so long as they can maintain the pattern.
  • Dual-wielding auto shotguns is very effective as it can help the player eliminate groups of weak enemies more quickly without being burdened by the auto shotgun's somewhat low rate of fire. This can be made easier by firing each auto shotgun one at a time.

Serious Sam's Bogus Detour[]

  • As the auto shotgun has a wide spread, this limits the weapon's range against targets that are far away, but it still makes a useful asset against multiple enemies in close quarters, such as Gnaars, Kleer Skeletons and Orc Troopers.
  • Though shells are a common source of ammunition, the auto shotgun can expend ammo quickly if the weapon is used too often.
  • It is a good weapon to use for dealing rapid damage to tough enemies which the player can then finish off with a different weapon to conserve ammunition. It is still best for the player to keep their distance though to reduce the chance of taking damage from their attacks.
