All Roads lead to Drones, aka "05a_Zoo", "Main Computer", or "Zoo" for short was the second out of the four known cut side-levels and was supposed to take place in Rome, during the When in Rome level.
Overview[]
As previously mentioned, Zoo was a side-level set in Rome. The goal was to destroy an Octanian drone hub settled there by interacting with their main computer. If the level objective was completed, Bill Corwin would publicly congratulate the player on the radio during the next two levels. Level geometry consisted of a lake with six islands on it, many animal houses, aviaries, animal feeders and small terrains.
The existing imagery of this level consists of 32x32 probe textures ripped from the files of a certain archive found on SDB. Due to the size and creation date, they're not as informative.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- While the original objective to destroy the drone hub from this level has been cut, the player can choose to take over a drone hub in One for the Road as part of an optional side objective.
Trivia[]
- Despite the codename, no traces of animal interaction during gameplay were ever found in the level.
- There exists a few depictions of the level in the form on concept art, especially the drone hub.[2]
- The concept art for the drone facility has a similar design to the Octanian Sentry Tower, an enemy and autonomous sentry weapon that appears in Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem. It's likely that the sentry tower was originally based on this design.
